‘Philosophy in the Antarctic’ at Tinsley Junior School, Sheffield, 2010 – 2011
When children in two year four classes at Tinsley Junior School arrived back at school after the Christmas holidays they probably didn’t expect to be setting off on an expedition to Antarctica! But with a bit of imagination, gloves and a backpack, off we went – encountering philosophical dilemmas at every turn.
This narrative of this project not only made space for lots of philosophical enquires; it was also home to all of the national curriculum teaching taught that term. So those with the imagination found themselves in Antarctica whether they were in a science lesson exploring melting or in a technology lesson making snow shelters!
