The Baltic Staff Training
In the early summer of 2014, Thinking Space began an exciting new phase of work in collaboration with several of the UK’s major galleries. This phase of work began within the North East’s fantastic Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, located on the banks of the Tyne. Grace facilitated a workshop with staff from the Baltic exploring the work of Lorna Simpson across the media of photography, film and drawing. The workshops showcased our new pedagogy which fuses philosophical enquiry with close-looking at art works and artifacts. This is a way to make abstract ideas more concrete by making clear connections between what we think and what we see.
This particular workshop explored Lorna Simpson’s aesthetic exploration of identity and we then explored the notion of identity within the workshop. This training for staff at the Baltic was the beginning of multiple strands of work which we continue in both adult learning, teacher training, and work in schools.
