I think Grace is a really top-notch creative talent, she understands very well how to pitch questions and lines of enquiry to a range of people. Thus she is able to promote and elicit deep thinking and learning in whomever she is working with. She is able to work alongside other creative talents who have expertise in differing fields and, most significantly, enhances the value of their work by her ability to connect ideas and practice.
We were delighted and privileged to work with Grace […] The success of our project is largely down to her approachable and flexible manner in which she has positively supported ALL the teachers and pupils in our school – an amazing feat in itself. Her knowledge has constantly pushed the level of learning into previously unimagined areas.
Grace was one of my most outstanding students, and I’m delighted that she is using her philosophical education to spread a love for philosophy and reasoned argument well beyond the confines of academia. Her initiatives demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit that transcends the desire merely to make money, and instead reaches out to the moral and intellectual enrichment of society as a whole.
“Thinking Space provided us with an insightful day of carefully tailored training – one that we really enjoyed. The trainers were easy to listen to, well informed, interesting” –
“[The Philosophy Exchange course] has made me consider philosophy much less as a private obsession and more a thing of public and political significance. It has also helped me to think more critically about what philosophy is and what the duties of philosophers are.”
“Inspirational and very thought provoking. This is potentially very powerful stuff for museums and galleries”
I loved this training! It’s given me real food for thought.
Grace tells us to say it, even if you think it might be wrong!
I promise I will carry on with philosophy as I grow up. I know that in the future I will remember all the fun we had this year.
I know that Grace’s initiatives to bring philosophy into schools and communities have been highly valued by all those concerned, having been present at a recent celebratory event for participants, teachers and parents held at Leeds University. She is a joy to work with, doesn’t hesitate to seize the initiative, and shows a safe pair of hands at all times. You will be very lucky if you find a better person than Grace. I recommend her fully and without reservation.
Liz led a fantastic session last week and we had some brilliant feedback from attendees. I can really see the value of the enquiry based discussions at BALTIC as it really helps visitors to find ways in to the exhibitions and relate the work to important issues and ideas without being overly arty or academic.
I found Grace to be open, flexible and easy to work with. She had a clear sense of how her ideas could be used and reacted with enthusiasm to my suggestions. I feel that the outcome of this project has been extremely successful. Students who have never had an opinion of their own are now able to discuss and justify some of the ideas and issues which will confront them as they progress in their lives from school to college and out into the world of work. Furthermore, the grades the students achieved during our final assessment, surpassed their target grades by more than one level.
Grace is a highly creative, skilled and reflective practitioner. Her understanding of Philosophy and its role in developing creative and critical learners is only matched by her ability to inspire the groups she works with. As a colleague / partner she is reliable, thorough and full of ideas. A pleasure to work with!
Grace has taught me to make it (philosophical enquiry) flow, and to be more flexible. She has helped me to pace it right by adapting the structure in response to children’s levels of engagement. Yet she always keeps the objectives in mind. She was also very reflective about what was happening, allowing us to change track if needed.
Because I don’t always find writing easy, being able to join in discussions has given me more confidence. I’d like to thank you for coming in and thank you for showing me another way of learning.
